My dog has blood under her nail. Is it an injury or just the quick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 45 lbs

My beabull has blood under the nail two of her back nails write up by where the Fur is and I think that she must have caught it on something and she continues to lick it I have not seen blood on anything but I was wondering if a simple nail trim and you putting a gauze wrap with some loose first aid tape around that Paul to keep it clean wood fix this without having to bring her in for a vet visit. she does need a nail trimming and I'm going to get her in to get them done professionally.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What you are describing is the normal quick or blood supply of the nail which is again not abnormal and nothing needs to be done. She does need a nail trim which you can do with your groomer or veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Best of luck!
