Dog's belly is big, no appetite, and tired. Dewormer didn't help.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | DOG-SMALL-LONGHAIR | Female | unspayed | 1.102 lbs

My dog has changed appetite and her belly became is large. I tried giving dewormers yesterday to make her feel better. She was given to us last 3 weeks ago and she hasn't been taking medications by her first owner. She was atleast 1 month when we had her. Our dog doesn't have breed actually, it is a native dog in the Philippines which is called aspin. So i think my dog is depressed because i think she feel hurt in her tummy. She sits differently i think and she's always sleeping.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to parasites. Keep in mind that not improving with a dewormer does not mean is not parasites. It may mean you are using the wrong dewormer or the wrong amount or longevity. This can also be a number of other things like a foreign body obstruction, parvovirus, among other causes. I would recommend you consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and start therapy accordingly. I am hoping for a speedy recovery!
