My long-haired cat's skin is red/sore from biting. Soothe it? Vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 13 lbs

My long haired cat either got poop tangled in the hair by her butt or she had a mat. I removed the chunk of fur but she had been biting at it for a couple days before that and the area is all red and has sores. How can I help soothe her skin? Should I take her To the vet?

Poor Luna! If she will let you, give her a bath with warm water and dawn dish soap. Keep her from licking the area, and in the morning, I would have her seen by a vet to have the area treated. I hope this helps!
