Is it safe to vaccinate my 9-year-old cat when getting a new kitten?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 9 months old | 10 lbs

Should my 9 year old cat receive vaccines for virus protection (My old cat have already received vaccination when he was 3 months old) since we bring a new young kitty home? Should my cat do the blood test before having vaccination? Will vaccines easily to cause kidney failure for my 9 year old cat? Thank you

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jimmy. I do recommend that he is current on all his vaccines before bringing a new kitten into the home. Personally, I have not seen vaccines cause kidney problems in cats. So I do not believe this is a reason not to vaccinate him. However, his veterinarian will know his complete medical history and can give you more detailed advice. I hope this information helps!
