How to help my young cat gain weight when vet says she's normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 5 lbs

Took tiger to the vet today she’s 2.5 kg = 5.5 lbs they told me she’s normal weight since she’s 1 yr 10 months but i want to let her gain a little weight, i used to feed her friskies and sheba ( the only brands she would eat ) . This week I decided to feed her royal canin she’s getting used to the wet food and would only eat small amount of the dry food is it going to help her gain weight fast if i feed her more ? Or she doesn’t need to gain weight now and just let her grow?

Taking in more calories is the only way to gain weight. Knowing the number of a pet's weight doesn't really tell us if they are healthy. Instead, we use body condition score to determine if a pet is under- or overweight. Here is a multi-part video on BCS for cats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yRvL8NcfHs
