My cat keeps throwing up after eating and drinking. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

Why is my cat throwing up all the time now, he started approximately a month or so ago..constantly over grooming (hair balls) but vomiting after eating food and or water lately. Could it be the heat? Last year (summer time) he did the same thing when it got hot and then when it cooled down he got back to normal! Could this just be heat related or ?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not likely to be due to the heat. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Turtle evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!
