My dog inhaled strong air freshener fumes. Could it cause damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Japanese Spitz | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 11 lbs

My sister pushed the button of air fresh pure for whole 3 seconds, my dog was in the next room and the smell was so strong that i even smelt in the closeted room next to my dog’s, the smeal was so strong u could feel burning in the nose. She even drank a lot of water that was in the same room as her, so that’s probably not really good. Will this leave any damage to her.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not likely going to cause any permanent damage and it is more likely to just cause a transient local irritation. However, if she seems uncomfortable, I recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!
