My cat has a large botfly hole in her neck. Is a vet visit urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 5 lbs

Has Botfly in neck. Was inside due to not eating drinking, lethargic, hacking like she has a hairball, fever, rotting smell days later she was acting fine, outside again, except hacking after eating/drinking. Attempted to remove worm, couldnt, small hole. Used peroxide for infection. Smell is gone now too but in very few days the hole is now large. Seen no worm. Will the vet find the worm and help or put her down? Owner believes the worm is gone and she will heal on her own. I'm concerned for her.

That hole is extremely large, and Black Panther has to see a vet now. I would not leave this to try to heal on its own, that would be cruel to her. Please urge her owner to take her into a vet immediately.
