My cat has a crusty rash on her face, nose, and eye. Is it bacterial?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 9 lbs

My foster cat Blaire has a strange rash on her face. I initially thought ringworm but I am unsure now. It’s a brown crusty rash on the bridge of her nose + a tiny amount of crust and hair loss around the outer corner of one eye. Lotrimin made the rash worse. Fungicide did nothing. The only thing that has helped is chlorhexidine wipes. Could this be a bacterial rash? She didn’t have it when I got her it developed about a week later. I’d like a second opinion. Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
