My pregnant cat died suddenly, struggling to breathe. What happened?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My cat just died recently and I have no idea of what caused her death. She was pregnant allegedly for a month or two. Her belly has enlarged as well as her nipples. She was doing just fine until I noticed the past few weeks that her neck area is thin. Despite her being heavy. She was eating but not much until she stopped eating for 4 days and the final day did not even bothered to move . I thought she was in labor. Then she was capturing her breath and died. What could have caused her death?

Are you sure Kotchi was pregnant? She could have had a pyometra, an infection of the uterus, that is fatal without treatment. She also could have died from a fatty liver, which is something cats develop after about 72 hours of not eating, and is also fatal without treatment. I'm sorry you lost her.
