My Chihuahua has abdominal pain. Pancreatitis or kidney problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 2 months old | 2.1 lbs

Last Saturday July 27th take my chiwawa to the vet with an apparent abdominal discomfort. He had a CBC and then told me he was in an episode of pancreatitis. However, another Veterinary friend told me that according to the results he understood that it was more related to a kidney or kidney problem. Here I attached the results.

The CBC shows a high white blood cell count that is mostly neutrophils and monocytes which means there’s infection and inflammation somewhere in the body. With the chemistry panel I do not see any problem with the kidneys. BUN is elevated but that is not a kidney specific enzyme. If both the BUN and the CREA were elevated, then I would say it is kidney disease. CREA is kidney specific. The amylase and lipase are both at the high-end of normal which are the pancreatic enzymes.. Even though they are not really high he coukd still have pancreatitis. Without any further information I would have to say that I agree with your vet.
