How to interpret proBNP test results for my cat's heart health?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 20 years and 7 months old | 7.5 lbs

Is it possible to explain results of pro bnp test in cats? What levels mean that my cat is closer to death? Also, can high blood pressure elevate levels? Are there other factors that may cause the result to be lower or higher than normal?

Pro-BNP doesn't determine the level of heart disease. It is commonly used to help determine if the symptoms we are seeing are related to the heart vs the lungs. It shouldn't be affected by the blood pressure, though some heart diseases can be worsened by elevated blood pressure.
