Why is my dog acting erratic and hyper? Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My dog is a 10 pound Chiuawawa Terrier mix about 3 yrs old male, my grandmother did her hair today and he might have licked or sniffed the dye we don't know, he is acting eratic and is running around wagging his tail. Acting very strange. The only thing calming him is us rubbing his stomach/genital area with our foot. He won't stop, ears back tail wagging running. We gave him a benadryl the right amount less than his wait though tiny piece, PLEASE HELP VERY WORRIED.

I have no idea why Leo is having these symptoms. I highly doubt it is related to the hair dye. He possibly got stung by an insect of some sort. I can see that causing his symptoms. I suggest you monitor him closely and if his symptoms last longer than 12 hours you should have a vet examine him. You can continue to give the Benadryl every 6-8 hours to see if it helps. You know your dog best so if you are very worried there is no harm in taking him to the ER now.
