My puppy's spay incision looks bruised. Is this normal after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chinese Crested | Female | spayed | 4 months and 17 days old | 10 lbs

My healthy, 10 pound 4.5 month old Chinese crested puppy was spayed earlier today and her incision looks really weird, I was wondering if there’s something wrong with it.

It looks OK right now; there is just some bruising around the incision. You can ice the incision for 5 minutes 2-3 times per day for the next couple days if she will let you. That may help. Please keep a "cone" collar on her so she doesn't lick this or it will turn in to a huge problem.
