What hydrogen peroxide mix is safe for my dog's abscess drain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old | 80 lbs

He had a drain tube put in today because of an abscess that they aren't sure how it formed. But the vet told me to pat with a water/hydrogen peroxide mix. However I haven't heard from the doctor yet about the correct mix. Like if it is half and half or more watered down. I want to know this mix as to not hurt him.

Yes, it would be equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. That mixture is only to be used around the drains to keep them open. The fluid will drain from around the tubes, not from the inside of the tubes. Keeping the area clean around the tubes is most important. Do not use the peroxide mixture it on the incision itself. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
