My dog's nose is dry. What are the signs of a dog ear infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 65 lbs

My pitbull has been having dry nose for 2 weeks. Why is that. Also how would I know if he has an ear infection. I think he might have one.

I cannot appreciate the dry nose from the photos but you can rub some Vaseline on it for a few days to see if it helps. The problem with treating the nose is that dogs often lick off whatever medication you apply to it. If you are worried about it you should have your vet check it. As for the ear, if there is an infection, most dogs will shake their head a lot, sometimes they scratch at the ear(s), they may rub the ear(s) on the carpet, you may notice a foul odor coming from the ear or discharge. Again, if you are worried you should have your vet check the ear(s) with an otoscope.
