Does rabies virus in dried saliva become dangerous if it gets wet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Say if the rabies in saliva dries up but that spot gets wet again with other substances, will the rabies come back or is it completely gone once it had dried up the first time?

The rabies virus is quite fragile, and can only survive for 10-20 minutes in direct sunlight. It could live up to two hours in saliva in a dog's fur, but it cannot come back once it's gone. So it's impossible for it to come back in saliva after it has dried up.
