My 4-month-old puppy broke a tooth. Vet is closed, what should I do?

My dog is 4 months old, his canine tooth broke while playing, he keeps licking at it and looks like hes in pain but is still playing and running around my vet is closed what should I do? Will he be ok

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about your puppy. Do not give him any human pain relievers, as many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. Given he's running and playing, just observe him tonight. Have him seen by a vet in the morning, and the vet can remove it as needed. Best of luck.

You need to take Jax into the vet first thing in the morning. Even though it doesn't seem like he is in pain, it will likely be painful to him. The tooth will probably have to be removed, which the vet can do for him.

Poor Rocky. Please do not give him any human pain medications as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Feed him canned food or soften his dry food with water before giving it to him. Have him seen by a vet first thing Monday morning.

Hello. That tooth probably should come out, even though it is a puppy tooth, but you can wait until Friday as long as Luna does not seem uncomfortable. . Your veterinarian might just leave it be, but there is a small chance of infection that can get into the root & then the bone causing problems with the adult tooth. My dog was chewing on a rawhide type bone when she suddenly stopped. I noticed one of her bottom teeth is now pushed outward. She is licking her paws so I can tell it's uncomfortable. Is this an emergency or can I wait till the morning to see her vet
HI and thank you for using Boop by Petco! I would definitely see your veterinarian in the morning however she is likely in pain if she has broken a tooth. I would recommend seeking emergency veterinary care for at least pain control tonight if she is uncomfortable, lethargic, salivating a lot, whining or vomiting. If you think her signs are mild, then you can probably monitor her and see your normal vet in the morning. Good luck!

Hello, and thank you for your question. I would recommend getting Archi seen by a vet within the next few days, to assess the severity of the broken tooth. If the fracture is deep enough to expose the nerve, it can cause pain and infection, and can affect eruption of the adult tooth. In this case, they may recommend extraction of the tooth. If the fracture is shallow, the vet may just recommend monitoring it until it falls out (usually by 6 months of age). In the meantime, offer Archi the option of softer food (canned food, watered down dry food) in case the broken tooth is causing him pain. Monitor for any discolouration of the tooth which would warrant immediate attention by a vet. I hope this helps, and that Archi does okay!

Hello. Even though this is just a puppy tooth, you should probably have the tooth removed soon. The pulp cavity is exposed & this is a route for infection to ascend up the canal. Hope you can have this done soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

The tooth looks like a baby tooth in the picture. As long as Sasha is not in pain then I would recommend waiting. If Sasha is in pain or not eating then I would recommend bringing her to a veterinarian sooner. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hello, I would recommend taking Lok into your vet this week to have his tooth checked. They will likely recommend extracting the tooth, as broken baby teeth can lead to severe infections, such as Tetanus. It should not affect his adult tooth growth at all. I hope this is helpful! Hi, Nico has a few retained puppy teeth. He is almost 9 months and today we were playing and one of them snapped off. Does it look like it broke off safely? Could part of his tooth still be stuck in his gum?
There is a possibility that part of the baby tooth is still in the gum . You should have your veterinarian examine your puppy's mouth for retained parts of the tooth. They would need to be removed as they invite infection, especially tetanus infection. Please take your puppy to your vet on Monday. A tooth remnant would need to be removed, and depending on the condition of the gum he may need antibiotics.

I gave my dog ice and him and my other dog started fighting over one piece of ice. I then noticed that my 4 yr.old dog lost his front tooth I'm guessing the ice must of hit his front tooth. Is there something I could do
Ouch, poor Bently! You will need to take him into the vet to have his mouth examined. If the tooth broke off, there may still be a portion of the root in his gums, and it will need to be removed under sedation. I would feed him soft food tonight, as it may be painful for him to chew with a broken tooth, but don't feed him past 8pm, as he will need an empty stomach if he's to be sedated in the morning. I would take him into the vet first thing tomorrow morning.
