My cat swallowed a string and isn't pooping much. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | European Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8.8 lbs

Our cat has swallowed thin piece of cord that has a few loops at the end. The whole thing is around 6 inches long. He has only had 4 bowel movements since monday. Usually he has 2 to 3 a day. Besides that he is eating and behaving normally. What should we do?

It would be best to seek veterinary care in person ASAP as linear foreign bodies can cause a lot of GI issues if left untreated. Your vet can help monitor Silence, and let you know if he requires surgery or if it looks like things are passing.
