My dog is destructive when left alone. Can neutering calm his anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a wiener, jack russel terrier, and something else breed dog. He is 3 years old and I have had him for less than 6 months. We are very close. My problem is that every time I leave him alone, he will knock over things, tear down my quilt I am working on, get into the trash and potty in the house (all things he does not do when I am home). When I return home, he is so overwhelmed, heart racing and heavily panting. Would neutering help calm him

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is adorable first of all!!! Neutering him would indeed calm him down and it is recommended at this stage anyway. If no improvement is seen 1-2 months after neutering him, I would recommend that you consider dog training for him which would for sure help in this case. Have a great day!
