My puppy hates the cone. Can I use bitter spray on spay stitches?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 10 days old | 21 lbs

My puppy just got spayed 2 days ago and she hates the cone so I was wondering if it is okay to apply this nutri vet bitter bandage around her tummy where her stitches are, just not sure though because it says do not appply directly on open wounds or sores. is that considered an open wound?

No, Bella needs to wear the cone at all times even though she hates it. Bitter sprays should not be applied to the incision and many pets will lick regardless if the spray is used. If Bella licks the incision, she is at risk for opening it up or causing and infection. The cone is the best protection and it is only a short amount of time. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
