Dog bit on ear with dangling skin. Does he need immediate vet care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 12 years old | 74 lbs

Our yellow lab was bit by another dog last night. He was bit on the ear and a flap of skin was pulled off and is somewhat dangling. We called our vet and they said to only bring him in if we see signs of infection. I’m wondering if you think he needs more medical attention than what we were told. The pictures I’m sending are some from yesterday, some from today. The one from yesterday has less blood around the wound.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cooper. I do recommend that he sees a veterinarian. I would shave the hair around the wound and potentially close the wound or remove the extra skin for him. I think pain medications and antibiotics could be warranted. I hope this information helps!
