My dog met a stray with pink eye growths. Are they contagious?

Hi there , today while I was walking my dog I saw a stray dog walk up to him with dozens of giant pink pink bulbs around it's eyes and it really freaked me out.It is some disease or what because it looked terrifying to me and I don't want anything happening to my dog. Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered

Without seeing the dog myself, I have no idea what was wrong with him. I would need to at least see a photo to be of any help. My best guess is that he had papilloma virus warts on his face and those are not contagious.
