Why is my parakeet's vent pink, she can't walk, and has discharge?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female

So I cleaned my parakeet’s cage tonight and I noticed one, who I think is a female I don’t even know for sure I got her from Petsmart 8 years ago. & you can see her bum is pinkish and no feathers there, meanwhile my other parakeet’s bum doesn’t look like that. But we put her back in the cage and she freaked out and is at the bottom of the cage, her legs are like cripple right now and she’s having trouble walking and there’s something brown & white coming out her bum & she’s squawking a lot.

Thanks for reaching out about Sunshine and including photos. The abdomen appears swollen, could be egg binding, a mass (tumor) or accumulation of fluid (ascites). A veterinary visit is recommended the sooner the better, as this can develop into something serious quickly. Monitor appetite and water intake. Clean the vent area with warm water if feces accumulates. Good luck.
