My cat is acting strange after having kittens. Is she sick or stressed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 10 months old | 5 lbs

My cat has suddenly started acting strange. Peeing/pooping in different rooms away from the litter box, getting onto the counter, eating plastic bags and their contents, etc. she’s not quite a year old and she just had a litter of kittens about a month ago. It’s just very weird for her and I don’t know how worried I should be. Is she just acting out and being spiteful or should I worry about her?

Nugget and her babies are so cute! It's not likely she is being spiteful but she could be having stress or a medical condition. When pet's stop using the litter box, this can indicate pain or a problem in the bladder or colon. Since Nugget can't talk and tell you why this is happening, I recommend to play it safe and have her examined by the veterinarian. Bring in a fresh stool sample so the vet can look for parasites or abnormalities in the consistency. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
