Why is my male aquatic turtle waving arms and sniffing females?

Pet's info: Reptile | Aquatic Turtle | Male | 9 months and 9 days old

My turtles are waving their arms at another turtle and seems to always sniff other female turtles, what is it doing?

Thanks for reaching out about Sheldon. This sounds like a common breeding behavior, to attract mates and warn off competing males. Females probably release pheromones in the water, as a signal for breeding potential. Unusual season for this but might be stimulated by warmer temperatures. Good luck.
