My German Shepherd's ear is red and warm. Is it an infection?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 105 lbs

My German Shepard has had ear mites I believe in one ear for a week or a little more now so I was treating it with the ear mite solution but this morning his ear is all red( I believe he was scratching it over night ) and it’s almost warm to touch ... he isn’t really bothered by it

Ear mites are extremely uncommon in pet dogs. This is usually seen in puppies that come from bad conditions or stray dogs. This looks like very severe inflammation and there is likely an infection present. I recommend you have Tiller seen by your vet. They need to look down into the ear with the otoscope to see what is going on.

    It looks like Bonnie could have an ear infection. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria, so without seeing him in person, I can't say what is causing it. You will need to take him into a vet who can diagnose if he does have an ear infection, what's causing it, and can prescribe correct treatment for it. Best of luck.

First of all earmites at her age- not very common, it's much more likely to be a bacterial or yeast ear infection. the only way to treat it is with a prescription eardrops, you will need to take her to the vet for that.

Ear mites are extremely rare in a pet dog that is well taken care of. It is only usually seen in dogs that are strays or not well kept. I highly doubt that is the issue. It is probably an infection. I suggest you have a vet examine the ear to look down inside with an otoscope to make sure there is nothing down inside causing him discomfort. If it is an infection then they can prescribe the appropriate medication depending on if it is a yeast infection, a bacterial infection or a mixed infection.

I have a one year old Great Pyrenees. She is shaking her head and the inside of her left ear is red and inflamed. There are black gritty spots on the inside of her ear. How can I give her relief. I feel like she has ear mites
It's probably an ear infection, often it cannot be seen from the outside. Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease (ear mites are much less common at this age) . the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take her to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent.

My 6 year old German shepherd has bumps on his ears. He scratches his ears very often as well

Hi! My german shepherd has runny ears.Its a watery sometimes yellowish fluid.They smell bad,he is scratching them various times a day.Ears appears red from inside.Help me regarding it.
This presentation is likely to be caused by a bilateral severe bacterial infection of the ear canals. Possibly an underlying allergy (especially if Jack is scratching all over his body) could be present. Antibiotic ear drops and possibly systemic treatment (anti-inflammatory medications and oral antibiotics) are most likely required. A check up is essential to determine underlying cause and treat appropriately. Oh my, poor Esme! There is no doubt that her ear is significantly inflamed. Even though she is not itchy, my main suspicion is that the redness, scaling, and warmth are inflammatory reactions to an ear infection or allergies. Some dogs are quite stoic when their ears are uncomfortable and may not itch with these conditions. Regardless, I strongly recommend taking Esme to her vet for evaluation. The vet will be able to examine her ears thoroughly, including the lower portions of the ear canal that are not visible to the naked eye. The vet will also be able to microscopically evaluate any discharge present in her ears to determine if infection is present. From there, medication can be prescribed to either treat an infection or to treat this significant inflammation. I hope this helps and that Esme feels better soon!

I'm sorry that you are having trouble, but I expect that you are treating for the wrong thing. Ear mites are not common in dogs unless it is an outdoor dog-and, even then, not very common. They are much more likely to be found in cats. Your dog looks like it has a bacterial+/- yeast infection and due to the physical changes in the ear, it looks to have been going for awhile. Unfortunately, this is going to require a veterinary visit for an exam and ear cytology to determine if it is yeast or bacteria or both. The vet will then prescribe the appropriate topical prescription medication. Due to the physical changes that have already occurred, the veterinarian may also want to prescribe an oral antibiotic or some type of anti inflammatory medication. Treatment will likely require several weeks.

Poor Bruno! It sounds like he may have an ear infection, which is typically caused by a mix of bacteria and yeast. These conditions are very uncomfortable and can result in permanent damage to the ear and ear drum. Bruno should be seen by a vet as soon as possible to begin the appropriate oral and topical medications.

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Ear mites generally are noted first with signs of thick, dark discharge which appears a bit "crusty". However-the lack of these symptoms does not mean all is well with the ears of your pup. Dogs can get frequent ear infections, just like we can. I can tell from your photos that your pup has hair that grown down into the ear canals-this will be part of the problem. Those hairs trap debris, water from bathing, extra wax, etc and act as a great reservoir for bacteria to grow. I always recommend to my clients to have the hairs "plucked" by their groomer when they go or to come in to the office so that we can do it. After the hairs are cleared and the ears are cleaned, I like to do an exam of the ear canal and to take a swab of the ears to see what kind of yeast and/or bacteria are present there. It is important to have this exam performed by your vet to verify that your pet's eardrum is intact and not perforated. Likely your pet will get prescribe
