Why is my cat hiding and not eating after trying to cough up a furball?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My cat has been having trouble this morning trying to get a furball out. He was sick a little bit like usual but no furball his breathing was quite laboured , he hasn't been choking or sick since this morning , but he is very quiet and in hiding , hasn't had any food or come near me , I think he's scared himself silly but I'm a bit concerned about him now

I would be a bit concerned as well. Hiding with cats usually means there is something wrong (unless this is a brand new environment for him). I would give him a bit more time but if he continues to hide and not eat, etc for longer than 24 hours then you should get him to your vet for an exam.
