My treated pet has fleas but no dirt. Are they jumping on and dying?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have 3 pets, 2 kittens and 1 dog. All have been treated for fleas. We are not finding any flea dirt on them, but have found 1 flea on dog and 2 on 1 kitten. No flea dirt. Does this mean the fleas are jumping on pets and dying? Not seeing fleas anywhere else in house. Been sweeping and vacuuming, washing beds and bedding.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. There is no product in the world that will prevent a flea from hopping on a pet, but the flea does die shortly after contact with the pet. Fleas are in the environment so it is important to use your flea product on a regular basis based on what the instructions recommend. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
