What’s the best way to treat the cut on my dog’s paw? We’ve been spraying it with the skin spray (pictured), bandages and wraps and doing our best to keep him from licking it. The inflatable donut was ineffective so we’ll pick up a cone today. Thanks in advance!

An e-collar (cone) will go a long way in aiding in healing. Keep it on until the wound is completely healed. Limit activity to just leash walks for elimination. Avoid excessive running jumping or rough play. Vetericyn Plus spray (https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/dog/dog-health-and-wellness/vetericyn-plus-wound-and-skin-care-for-dogs ) may also speed healing. You can find it in the local Petco.

I don't really think a vet visit is needed at this stage. You will however, need to keep him from licking it by either using a cone collar or a bandage. If you bandage it be sure not to make it too tight. Hopefully he won't chew it off and then eat the bandage! I recommend the cone collar instead. A bandage will keep the wound moist which will delay healing. Keep it uncovered and using the cone will help it heal faster. When you get a cone, be sure it is long enough to go past the end of his nose otherwise he will still be able to lick it. As long as he licks it, it won't heal and may end up getting infected. This soft collar is nice: ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/dog/dog-health-and-wellness/dog-ecollars/all-four-paws-tan-comfy-cone-5000727--1 ) I would apply this liquid bandage to it once a day to protect it. Apply it and wait til it dries (just a minute or so) before you put the foot back down. ( https://www.walmart.com/ip/New-Skin-Liquid-Bandage-0-3-OZ/143805486 ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Place an e-collar (cone) on Flaggie to prevent further licking. You may need to have her examined by your veterinarian to treat or prevent infection. You can't apply anything without an e-collar or she will simply lick it off. A protective bootie or bandage may be necessary to allow the area to heal.

Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking. This alone may be enough to allow healing. If the skin is broken though, she may need antibiotics. You will need to have Nemmy examined by your veterinarian to have antibiotics dispensed. In the meantime, limit Nemmy's activity if possible. Avoid walking her on rough surfaces until she is healed. You may need to buy protective booties for her to prevent future injury.
