My 6-month-old cat's peeing less. Could holding urine cause problems?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 4 days old | 4.85 lbs

Hi! 1)May i know how many times/the amount my 6months old Pelly should urinate per day? 2)Here the temperature is around 30 celcius and pelly drinks water well. But his urination frequency has reduced from around 6times a day to 2times day, since the litter box position changed. I feel he is holding urge. His UFR was normal and he drinks same as usual. Will he have some problem long term by holding urine urge? Thank u!!

There is no correct answer to this question. Some cats urinate only twice a day and others more. There is not necessarily a problem. It may cause him a problem if he holds his urine too long; he can get a UTI, kidney failure, bladder rupture, etc.. Can you not move the litter box back to the original position? That would be my recommendation.
