Why is my kitten lethargic, not eating, and has mouth mucus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 6 lbs

Our kitten has had his third eyelid visible over the weekend. We've taken him to the vet and they have confirmed there is nothing obviously wrong (ulcers on the eye). However after eating home today he has no energy, hasn't touched his food and I have wiped away a mucus from his mouth. Getting a little worried as this is very unlike him.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Atlas. He may be developing an upper respiratory tract infection. This is common in kittens and can affect the eyes as well. Sneezing could be causing the mucus as well. If he is congested, he will not be able to smell his food. This will affect his appetite. I recommend asking his veterinarian if this is a possibility. If so, he would likely need an antibiotic. I hope this information helps!
