My puppy ate ceramic and is lethargic. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 10 days old | 20 lbs

My dog may have eaten most of a broken ceramic egg last night and is moopy today and doesnt want to do much. She’s a 14 week old goldendoodle. Her respiration’s are even and unlabored, but she just wants to lay around. Will she pass this or should I take Her in?

I would recommend taking her in to the vet. Depending on the size of the ceramic pieces, they may or may not be able to pass through her system. Lots of small pieces could potential cause significant irritation as they pass through the intestines and can cause a lot of pain. Larger pieces may not pass at all and may need to be removed surgically.

Hello Jose! If she ate a tiny piece, Nola will likely be just fine. A very tiny piece will typically pass on it's own without a problem, and there's no need to worry. If you do see some blood in her feces, it could be that this piece may have done some damage to her GI tract on the way out, and then I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
