Should I separate young male and female guinea pigs before neutering?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 27 days old

I have two guinea pigs of almost the same age. I got the male one after i got my female piggy. I want to neuter him but the vet said that they'll do it after a month. Should i keep them separately for a month? Like in different cages? Or is it fine to let them get along because they're young? They're almost 2 and a half to 3 months old. The black n white one is the female and black, brown and white is the male.

1. Should i keep them separately for a month? YES YOU SHOULD. 2. Like in different cages? YES, DIFFERENT CAGES 3. Or is it fine to let them get along because they're young? They're almost 2 and a half to 3 months old. THEY ARE SEXUALLY MATURE AT THIS AGE AND WILL BREED IF YOU KEEP THEM TOGETHER. AFTER SURGERY IT IS STILL POSSIBLE FOR THE MALE TO GET THE FEMALE PREGNANT FOR UP TO ABOUT 30 DAYS. SO, CONTINUE TO KEEP THEM SEPARATED FOR AN ADDITIONAL 30 DAYS AFTER SURGERY.
