My dog's paw is infected. Could it cause swollen lymph nodes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | spayed | 6 years and 8 months old | 77 lbs

Dog has an infection in between her right back paw pads, it’s red and there’s some pus. It all started with a cracked paw pad, which she licked none stop, and then the skin in between the pads under the paw is now inflamed. Today I felt the lymph node behind her back knee, and notice that the right side is slightly bigger than the left, could the paw caused this? We are currently treating the paw with antibiotic cream.

Yes, the infection in the paw can cause the lymph node to be inflamed. Monitor the lymph node closely and if it gets larger or the wound is not resolving in an appropriate amount of time then she should see a vet.
