Why is my dog shaking, weak, and unresponsive? Is it serious?

My shitzu, around 6 years old, started shaking tonight, was unresponsive and unable to stand for a couple of minutes. After a while he got up but was weak, are these one of the signs he's getting ready to die?

Poor pup! This is definitely very concerning. Without being able to examine him and run some tests, it's hard to say what might have caused this. He may have had some type of seizure, or a fainting episode caused by heart problems or low blood pressure. I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen, since this may be a life-threatening problem. The veterinarian there can do blood work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
