My dog is fly-snapping, lethargic, and not listening. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 50 lbs

My dog has been acting weird and bitting imaginary flies in the air ect. She also has been very lazy and not listening to her every day commands. Is this symptoms of a diagnosis?

Fly-snapping and other unusual behavior can be indicative of a neurologic problem of some kind, which could also explain why she has been acting lethargic and not responding the way she usually does when you talk to her. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam. He/she can do a full neurologic exam to help determine if something is wrong, and may recommend some additional testing if needed to help diagnose the specific problem.
