Dog threw up undigested kibble from new food bag. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 74 lbs

So I opened a new bag of dog food today, same kind and he's thrown up twice now within the past 8 hours. Should I fast for 12 or 24 hrs? Do I feed that same bag of food? He's thrown up undigested kibble. I have not noticed any diahrrea. I have since given him bone broth which he is excited for but he refuses that kibble.

It's impossible to know if it's a coincidence or not. I'd recommend just getting a new bag and calling the company to let them know. Their number will be on the bag and they should offer a refund and get the information from you about lot number, production date, etc on the bag so they can keep track of any issues in their system. Hold off on food for the rest of the night (water is fine), and go ahead and offer half a breakfast in the morning. If he doesn't keep that down, I'd recommend a vet visit for a check up and likely some mild supportive care before Otis ever gets really ill.
