My hamster has a strange mark on his skin. Should I be worried?

I went to take my hamster out his cage for a while and sat him on my chest as i was touching his fur i noticed this on his skin And i am not sure what it is and if i should be worried about it

That looks like a wound of some type. Maybe from another hamster or a toy or bar in the cage? There could also be a small mass or cyst that's open. Keep that area clean and have a vet check that out in case he needs antibiotics.

    Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is likely that your veterinarian was referring to a keratin-filled cyst. Keratin is a molecule that makes up skin and nails, so accumulations of it can form firm, callous-like lumps. It is OK that it has fallen off. Just make sure the area does not appear to continue to bleed or cause your hamster irritation - i.e. he tries to scratch or bite at it. I hope this is helpful!
