Dog throwing up clear liquid, not eating after boarding. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

Hello. My dog has been spitting up all night. It is only clear white spit now. Every 30 minutes or so. Have not eaten or drank since around 3 pm yesterday. No sleep all night. She was bordered for a week and we have had her back for about 3 days. Have noticed a slight difference in her that she sleeps a lot more than before but we just thought that it was probably noisy at the border place. What can we do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

It sounds like Nash has signs of colitis. This is common in dogs who are under stress, such as from boarding. However, the vomiting and not eating concerns me. These dogs can develop hemorrhagic gastroenteritis that can be life threatening. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. An emergency veterinarian tonight would be ideal. Fluid therapy, probiotics, bland diet, and possibly antibiotics may also be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
