Why does one of my Maine Coons pant when outside in warm weather?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon Polydactyl | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 17 lbs

We have two Maine Coons. 19 months old. When we take them outside when it’s fairly warm one will start panting before long. Not the other one though.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It would be best then to keep him inside. Regardless, panting is not normal for a cat so if you continue seeing this when he is inside, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!
