My dog's neck cyst is oozing. Can I give him human amoxicillin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 125 lbs

My 65kg dog has infection on his neck from a possible cyst. It’s oozing and smells rotting. This actually happened 6 months ago and we where living elsewhere. They gave him amoxicillin and we washed with salt water and colloidal silver concentrate spray. It healed. We are remote. That same vet is not available. I have a new packet of amoxicillin (human) Can I give my 65kg dog A 500mg amoxicillin tablet 3 times a day? Either that or I need to shoot him!! Please help.

Please, here in this forum don’t threaten shooting your dog if we don’t help you. It’s inappropriate. The dose for Amoxicillin is 10-25mg/kg, two to three times per day. You are better off giving him 1,000 mg three times a day if the infection is a bad as you described.
