My virgin cat's breasts are huge. Can she produce milk without being pregnant?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 6.6 lbs

We do have a cat named Chy. She's still a virgin yet we notice that her breast are getting huge. Will it be possible for her to produce milk though not pregnant? Or is it just her fat belly? Hoping you could help me with this. Thank you.

It is possible for her to be having a false pregnancy. It is more common in dogs, but cats can have them as well. If you are not planning on breeding her it is best to have her spayed. False pregnancies can turn into a uterine infection (pyometra) which can be life threatening.
