My dog is limping on her front leg. Should I take her to the vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 70 lbs

My dog is limping out of no where and doesn’t want to put any weight on her front leg. This started about 2pm yesterday and still the same. No wimpering when I bend her leg. Nothing wrong with her paw as far as I can tell. I was home with her when this started. Don’t know what she could’ve done, I did not see or hear anything happen. Should I take her to the vet today or give it a few days? Should I be letting her put some weight on her leg when she goes to use the bathroom or try to carry her?

I don't think you need to carry her. She can walk but just slowly and only on a leash. It is amazing how quickly they "forget" they are injured when they see a squirrel or something! I recommend you rest her (obviously no running, jumping or playing) over the weekend. If by Monday there is no improvement then she should probably see the vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
