3-month puppy won't drink water. Should I force it? How much to feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

How many times should a 3 month old puppy eat in a day? How much does intake does she need to eat? And how about water? Also, she doesn't seem to drink her water when placed in a bowl. Eventhough, its been changed every 2 hours as well as clean the bowl. Is it okay to force a puppy to drink water via syringe?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Puppies should eat three times a day until they are 4-6 months old. The bag of dog food you bought should say how much dog food to feed per day. Split that amount into 3 meals. Dogs will drink when they are thirsty, they don’t dehydrate if they are healthy. If you are feeding canned dog food there is excess water in it so dogs drink less. I wouldn’t force water as Pepper will drink when it’s necessary. Kisses to Pepper!
