My dog has bloody urine, licks privates, and strains. Is it a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 10 lbs

I just got back from vacation and I see that my dog has been dripping urine on the bed. The urine seems to have spots of blood. She has been licking her privates since I got back. When I walked her she urinated but nothing came out and she was able to go in my backyard. It’s seems that she’s drinking water normally. Could this be a UTI ? And can I purchase medication to treat it without seeing a vet ? I’ve only been home for one day so should I moniter her urine to see if it continues ?

I would be worried this is a UTI, and no you cannot purchase medication without seeing a vet. Coco needs antibiotics if she has one, and that is available by prescription only from a vet. I would not monitor her for a day, UTIs are painful and uncomfortable to dogs. Please take her into a vet in the morning.
