Why are the bumps under my dog's chin bleeding and getting bigger?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 16 years and 8 months old | 100 lbs

I have a 7 year old Black lab. He randomly had these small callus like bumps under his chin. And was scratching them. They started to bleed. Then stopped. We have been putting antibiotic ointment on it. Now it had become two bumps and they are gettig bigger. They look and feel hard like a callus like the ones on his elbows. Should I be concerned? What needs to be done? Where my fingers are in the picture is his mouth I'm holding shut so you can get idea of where bumps arem its underneath.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ruger. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. His skin appears to be infected. If so, he will likely medication such as antibiotics to help it heal. A topical cleansing solution may be prescribed as well. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him if he is scratching his chin. I hope this information helps!
