My 5-month GSD Lab mix puppy is lean. Is her growth on track?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 7 days old | 27 lbs

What is the growth spurt time for time for German Shepherds and labs? My girl is a mix of the two. She’s 5 months now and is 27lbs. She’s already been dewormed but she’s lean. Her mom was 80 lbs ( gsd x lab) and her dad was 110lbs (gsd x lab). She eats well and is a ball of energy. She’s also got very long legs in person. Should I be worried about her weight? Her breeders did say she was a runt. At 10 weeks old she was only 16lbs. I know some dogs are late bloomers.

Noir Is at the age where the growth spurt should begin. As long as her body condition score is good, and she is eating a high-quality large breed dog food, everything should be fine. Also keep in mind that just because her parents are big, does not mean she will be big. Sometimes the runts can be as much as 50% smaller than their littermates. Make sure she is regularly dewormed. Genetics determine how big your dog will be, the best thing you can do is help her to grow consistently. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
