My cat is not eating, drinking, or active after tapeworm shot. Normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 months and 4 days old | 8.25 lbs

I have a cat named Christina who is a 10 month old cat who is a short haired Tabby. She was recently diagnosed with Tapeworms, so I took her to the vet and they gave her a shot and said she should start pooping out the worms. It's been a little over 24 hours now, and my cat will has yet to use the restroom, eat her food, drink water, or even play with anybody (she is usually very active). All she does is sleep and I'm wondering if that's just a symptom of the medicine. Please help ! :(

I would call your vet with this update. I would not expect these symptoms in a normal cat with tapeworms. Occasionally, in pets with a really large worm burden, the dying worms can cause a blockage in the intestines. The vet should be able to help you decide if Christina needs to be re-evaluated.
