My parrot has a bleeding bald spot on her neck. What to do until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Female

In the last 2 days, my parrot has both gained a big bald spot on the side of her neck, and a bald spot that appears to have been bleeding a lot. The skin, apart from the wound, looks pink and healthy. I've never seen her pluck herself even once. But I think she broke a blood feather. But a week ago you couldn't tell she had a bald spot almost at all. It may be that the other bird is plucking her, but I'm not sure. What things can I do until I can take her to the vet, which is thursday or friday?

Wow, that is pretty severe! Poor Mango! There is really nothing you can do right now. I don't suggest you put anything on her topically as she may ingest it. This is not an emergency; just get Mango to the vet when you can. ( https://www.petcoach.co/article/feather-picking-in-pet-birds-causes-treatment-and-preventio/ )
